Calderone: “Inps sent 23 million emails to the elderly to combat scams”

INPS has taken proactive action to combat” the phenomenon of scams “by sending 23 million awareness emails to educate and inform users on the most common scam methods and the behaviors to adopt to defend oneself”.

The Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Marina Calderone, states this in a note. "This commitment is accompanied by a constant update of the anti-fraud handbook, available on the official website, together with a cross-media campaign that has increased the visibility of the problem and actively involved the community, thanks also to the dissemination of information material in the offices and on social media", explains the minister.

Goal: Engage the community

The goal is to increase the visibility of the problem, actively involving the community. Raising awareness is a very important step to reduce the number of scams and protect the most vulnerable citizens.

"It is our duty to protect the most vulnerable in our society. Every action counts, and we must join forces to fight these illicit acts. Our campaign aims to create a safety net around the elderly, so that they can live in peace and security," Calderone continues. "The active involvement of institutions and a constant information campaign are essential to protect the elderly from scams. Only through an integrated and collaborative approach will we be able to guarantee greater safety for all users."

“Penalties increased for crimes against the elderly”

“We strongly wanted to increase the penalties for crimes against the elderly because this issue is of fundamental importance, given that they can represent a particularly vulnerable target,” explains Calderone. “Their lifestyle habits, trust in others and, in many cases, a lack of familiarity with modern technologies, expose them to scams of various kinds. I applaud the initiatives implemented by numerous public bodies, in particular Consob and Inps, which are actively working on this front.”

Antonio Di Matteo, member of the board of directors of INPS, also emphasizes the importance of these initiatives: "It is our duty to protect the most vulnerable in our society. INPS is not only committed to prevention, but also to informing and raising awareness. Every action counts, and it is necessary to join forces to fight these illegal acts. Our campaign aims to create a safety net around the elderly, so that they can live in peace and security"
